How much does it cost to get a divorce?

The cost of getting a divorce can vary depending whether you deal with the divorce in person or whether you instruct a solicitor.
The court fee at present is £593. There has been a recent increase so it probably will not increase for a while and if you do not instruct a solicitor that might be the only fee that you pay.
There is also a form that you can complete online, where you can apply for a reduction in the court fee, depending on your income and savings.
Here at Taylor Bracewell we offer a fixed fee for a divorce and as of June 2022 that is £625 + VAT (£125). This fixed fee deals with all the divorce procedure from start to finish and also giving some preliminary advice about financial matters as well.
The fixed fee is payable in two instalments, one at the beginning of the proceedings and the final one when we apply for the conditional order. This allows for the cost to be spread over a period of time.
It is also important to remember that the person who starts the divorce, who is known as the Applicant, can still make a claim for costs against the Respondent, although this is no longer automatic and a separate application is required. Arrangements for the costs should be agreed beforehand in writing wherever possible.
