Why should I instruct a Solicitor when I’m doing my own divorce?

Some people now choose to deal with their own divorce and that is because the procedure is generally dealt with online although it can still be done on paper. Sometimes people think that it will be quite a straightforward process, however, there are times when you do have to be careful about dealing with the divorce yourself. For example, people will often miss out on a claim for costs when that is something that could be incorporated or dealt with beforehand. It may be that there are financial claims that are not included in the divorce application and these may not later be included without an amendment and a further fee.
If someone is dealing with a divorce in person they might apply for decree absolute, which is now called the final order, and this could lead to adverse implications for tax. Sometimes it may be due to a pension, that you should not have applied for the final order, and so it is really important that you take legal advice about the divorce procedure itself and the finances, which really should be resolved before applying for the final order.
