Please note: Help to Buy Equity Loans came to an end on the 31st of March 2023. All applications made prior to the 31st of October 2022 are still being processed, however, all purchases under this scheme must be completed by the end date of 31st March 2023.

Help to Buy Equity Loans were only available for those buying a newly constructed home worth under £600,000.00. They were for people that did not own any other property at the time of application and a deposit of 5% was required. The government then lent up to 20% of the property value as an equity loan. Those who applied were then responsible for raising a mortgage of 75% of the balance of the purchase price.

The first five years of the help to buy equity loan is interest-free. From year six, interest is charged subject to the help to buy lending criteria.

Repayment of the equity loan must be made upon the sale of the property.
