World Alzheimers Month 2023 Theme: ‘Never too early, never too late’

As September arrives, we step into World Alzheimer’s Month, a dedicated time to raise awareness, foster understanding, and extend our compassion to those touched by Alzheimer’s disease and various forms of dementia. This international movement brings together people from all walks of life—individuals, families, caregivers, medical experts, and organizations—to jointly illuminate the far-reaching effects of dementia on countless lives across the globe.

What is World Alzheimers Month?

World Alzheimers Month, a campaign ran by Alzheimers Disease International (ADI), takes place every September. Its aim is to raise awareness of dementia and challenge the stigmas surrounding the disease. World Alzheimers Day takes place every year on the 21st September.

This year’s theme is ‘Never too early, never too late’, which aims at adopting risk reduction measures to delay and possibly prevent the onset of dementia. It also includes risk reduction techniques for those who have already had a diagnosis.

How can I get involved with World Alzheimers Month?

Alzheimers Disease International have released a campaign toolkit to help you get involved. Within the campaign kit they have include information surrounding this year’s campaign; key messages about Alzheimers and an overview of working with the media. The campaign kit is available in English, French and Spanish.

How can Taylor Bracewell help those living with Alzheimers and their loved ones?

Staff here at Taylor Bracewell meet many people diagnosed with Alzheimers or similar illnesses.  Some of our staff are Dementia Champions and Dementia Friends. Our staff are trained to help those who are living with the disease. We will speak in short sentences using a soft tone and using simple words to assist you in understanding. We are patient and happy to go over things to ensure you receive the best advice possible to enable you to make your own informed decisions. Our interview rooms are located on the ground floor of our building with alternative option of home visits. They are quiet with minimal distractions from noise or displays on the wall.

Many people who have been diagnosed with Alzheimers or similar illness will want to get their legal affairs in order.  You may wish to consider making a Power of Attorney.  This is a legal document which enables someone else to act on your behalf and make decisions for you if you are unable to do so yourself.  This may be because you are either physically or mentally incapable of doing so.

There are several types of Powers of Attorney. These documents enable those who you appoint to make decisions relating to your financial and/or health and welfare needs.

If you require anyone information on how we can help those being affected with Alzheimer’s, contact one of the Doncaster team by calling 01302 341 414 or our Sheffield team by calling 0114 272 1884, alternatively, you can fill out our online enquiry form.

"I have recently sold my property in Liverpool and Peter Caswell at Taylor Bracewell Solicitos acted on my behalf and he was outstanding. This was a very difficult sale due to the fact that the other party's solicitors was excessive in their demand and clearly ignorant but Peter was very patient during what ended up being a long drawn out process. Peter maintained professionalism..."

"Really informative and clear initial call - took the time to listen to my situation, understand what was needed and answer all my questions. One small mistake in the first draft of the Will (no-one’s perfect!) but quickly rectified. Peace of mind that everything is looked after if I die."
