Having concerns for a child’s welfare? | International Children’s Day

June 1st is International Children’s Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about concerns for a child’s welfare worldwide. Celebrated as part of the 1925 Proclamation at the World Conference on Children’s Welfare.

Initially, the purpose was to improve conditions for children, across the world. Funds were made available and the focus was on child education, nourishment and anti-trafficking activities. It recognised that “mankind owes to the Child the best that it has to give”

International Children’s Day brings attention to the escalating concerns for child welfare in the UK. With a staggering 4.3 million children living in poverty, 2,329 potential child victims of trafficking, and 56,000 children identified as needing protection from abuse or neglect, it is crucial to prioritise their well-being.

In this article, we explain what you should do if you have concerns for a child’s welfare and how you can take part in International Children’s Day.

What should I do if I’m concerned for a child’s welfare?

When it comes to concerns for a child’s welfare, knowing what to do is crucial. If you suspect a child is at risk, it can be challenging and overwhelming. However, speaking up is vital. Taking action can make a significant difference in ensuring a child’s safety.

We strongly advise reaching out to your local children’s social care duty team promptly. They are accessible 24/7, and you have the option to report anonymously.

How to take part in International Children’s Day

To take part in International Children’s Day, you could consider donating to a fund/charity helping children who are deprived of basic needs. Volunteering for a children’s organisation could also assist the cause. It is also possible to sponsor a child to ensure their future growth.

Despite all the work undertaken over the last 100 years, it is estimated that there are 140 million children born annually in the world; children still die as a result of abuse or can still be involved in child labour and suffer malnutrition. The initiatives taken today will therefore help to ensure improved lives for children in the future.

"I have recently sold my property in Liverpool and Peter Caswell at Taylor Bracewell Solicitos acted on my behalf and he was outstanding. This was a very difficult sale due to the fact that the other party's solicitors was excessive in their demand and clearly ignorant but Peter was very patient during what ended up being a long drawn out process. Peter maintained professionalism..."
