5 Tips: How to make my divorce go smoother
20 October 2020
Applying for a divorce can be stressful and upsetting for all involved. We understand that your overall objective is to exit the marriage as soon as possible. Therefore we have put together five tips that may help your divorce go smoother and potentially quicker:
- Seek Professional Help and Advice – Seeking guidance from a professional advisor as soon as possible is essential to avoid errors that can cause unnecessary delay and costs.
- Be polite – Try to talk things through as much as possible with each other appropriately.
- Honesty is key – Be honest from the start and do not hide anything from the other party. It will help promote clear communication!
- Be prompt – Be active and do not delay anything as this can cause further distress and anxiety for both parties!
- Reduce third party input – avoid involving third parties such as family, friends and especially any child/children of the marriage. We understand this may be difficult; however, the input of a third party can sometimes lead to delays and further distress.
In addition to these five tips, it’s important to remember that neither party needs to blame the other for a divorce. This is the result of the law changing surrounding divorces on the 6th of April to introduce “No Fault Divorce”.
