Good Divorce Week : Resolution Together
2 December 2022
Today marks the final day of 2022 Resolution Good Divorce Week. This year, Resolution have been focusing on the significant backlog in the Family Courts and looking at ways to alleviate it.
Amongst other suggestions, Resolution has also launched the Resolution Together scheme, whereby in appropriate circumstances, one lawyer can act for two clients together. This comes, on the back of the new divorce law, allowing parties to issue a divorce jointly for the first time.
Resolution has promoted the scheme in order to recognize that every individual is unique and that we need to listen to clients and provide them with an approach that helps them best. Where there is no significant dispute between the parties, it may be possible for them to work with one lawyer in order to resolve children matters or financial issues. The idea is to also strengthen and encourage greater cross-working, such as with mediation and arbitration.
Resolution Together will not work for all clients and it is for the lawyer to assess, with the clients, whether this is something that could be suitable, for example, where the parties have agreed the terms of a financial arrangement and want it to be embodied in a Consent Order within the divorce. Resolution has recently released guidance in relation to how the scheme can work and it is likely that more and more firms will offer this service in due course.
Taylor Bracewell is committed to supporting Good Divorce Week and the promotion of Resolution Together in the near future.
