Good Divorce Week 2022
28 November 2022
This week marks 2022 Resolution – Good Divorce Week. This year, Resolution aims to highlight and focus on the crisis in Family Courts and the different ways families can resolve disputes, including away from court.
The Family Courts are overstretched and have huge backlogs, in terms of dealing with listing court hearings and general administration tasks. This means that families are often waiting long periods of time in order to resolve financial matters or child arrangements.
Resolution are calling for government funded early legal advice in order to try and resolve more cases without families having to attend court, where it is safe and appropriate to do so.
Resolution promotes the use of mediation in order to resolve matters without having to make an application to court. They also promote “Resolution Together”, which is a new way of working that allows lawyers to work with, and advise couples jointly, including providing appropriate legal advice through a divorce or separation outside of court.
Resolution also encourages meeting with local MPs in order to raise the issue of court backlogs and can share a briefing with you if you intend to meet your MP. You can contact communications@resolution.org.uk for more information.
